Practical means for the study of electron correlation in atoms

Abstract

An investigation with sufficient sensitivity to measure electron-impact double ionization was performed. The investigation was conducted in a regime where ionization proceeds through impulsive, binary, ionizing collisions. The ionization mechanisms were identified with the help of the kinematics of the experiment. With the help of two-electron momentum densities, the atomic electron correlation was described.
