Abstract

Recently, the immunoglobulin superfamily protein IZUMO on the sperm surface was identified as being essential for sperm-egg fusion. Although we examined the expression of IZUMO on sperm of 13 male infertile patients with severe oligozoospermia and/or athenozoospermia and 12 infertile patients with fertilization failure in previous conventional IVF to determine whether it is varied in infertility patients, we could not identify any patients with IZUMO negative by immunocytochemistry.
