Polymer hybrid nanoassemblies for nonlinear optical materials

    Abstract

    Amphiphilic copolymers of N-dodecylacrylamide (DDA) with nonlinear optical (NLO) active molecule (DR) (p(DDA/DR)) were synthesized. Hetero-deposited polymer nanosheets consisting of p(DDA/DR) and NLO non-active pDDA were prepared by the alternate deposition with Langmuir-Blodgett technique, and coupled with gold nanoparticle layers; a gold nanoparticle monolayer was coated with hetero-deposited polymer as half SP structure, and another gold nanoparticle monolayer was over coated on the substrates as sandwich structure. The second harmonic generation (SHG) was investigated using Maker-fringe method. The SH light intensity amplification at 532nm by surface plasmon resonance was measured as a function of the separation distance between p(DDA/DR) and gold nanoparticle monolayers.
