Polarization-switching noise reduction of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers by polarization control

Abstract

An attempt is made to investigate noise in multitransverse-mode, single-transverse-mode, and single-transverse-mode polarization-controlled VCELs. Low noise operation using a SM-PC VCEL is achieved for the first time. Finally, it is confirmed that polarization control is a key factor to reducing RIN enhancement.
