N2 - The photoionization quantum efficiency φ of trimethylamine (TMA) in liquid Ar doped with Xe (0.01-0.4%) has been measured and compared with the value obtained in liquid Xe. TMA is excited by vacuum ultraviolet photons originating from Xe2* produced by α-particles. Doping liquid Ar with Xe causes a wavelength shift from emission of Ar2* to Xe2*. The value obtained in liquid Ar doped with Xe is <0.2 which is much smaller than the value of 0.8 in liquid Xe. The difference may be attributed to a strong cage effect in liquid Xe.
