Phase stability and thermal cycle life of ZrO 2-Y 2O 3-La 2O 3 coatings produced by EB-PVD

Abstract

Effect of La 2O 3 addition on phase stability and thermal cycle life of Y 2O 3 stabilized ZrO 2 (YSZ) coatings produced by EBPVD was investigated. The developed coating showed low thermal conductivity even after high temperature exposure due to its high resistance to sintering. However, phase stability and thermal cycle life of the coating decreased as the amount of La 2O 3 was increased. Further experiments were necessary to optimize the amount of stabilizers (Y 2O 3, La 2O 3) in order to develop advanced thermal barrier coatings.
