The authors have been trying to clarify the origin of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy of amorphous rare-earth/transition-metal alloy films, by changing the kind of rare earths and their composition systematically for binary systems based on Fe or Co. In the present study they used Gd, Dy, and Er as the rare-earth elements and investigated the temperature dependence and the saturation magnetization as well as the film magnetostriction. Results for the temperature dependence of magnetic anisotropy for GdCo and DyCo films are shown and discussed. They are compared with results for CoNd from a previous study.
