Laboratory studies showed that stirring the steelmaking bath during combined blowing of the metal in the converter leads to an increase in acceptable output with respect to manganese, while the concentration of the latter in the metal is close to equilibrium with the slag. It is established that a decrease in the height of the upper tuyere over the bath level makes it possible to increase the residual concentration of manganese in the metal. However, reduction of manganese from the slag occurs during the period of intense decarburization. It is assumed that an optimal combination of bottom blowing with variation of the height of the upper tuyere is the most effective means of controlling oxidative processes.
