Oxygen content and structural properties of some BaCu oxides

Abstract

BaCuO2-x materials have been prepared by firing of CuO and BaCO3 and also by a sol-gel method described elsewhere in this volume(M. Kakitana et al). The materials have been annealed at different temperatures and under various oxygen pressures. The variation in oxygen content have been studied by x-ray powder diffraction and by wet chemical as well as gravimetric methods. As BaCuO2-x can be present as an impurity phase when preparing 123 superconductors an x-ray investigation on the detection limit has been carried out as well. Single crystals of a material Ba2CuO3+x have been prepared in millimeter size.
