The prospects of human space exploration in Japan are discussed. There is little effort in Japan to prepare for Humans Beyond Earth Orbit activity. Japan depends on robotic interplanetary probes because it feels that human space exploration will involve massive space ships. Till date, Japan has nine astronauts, five of whom have already flown on Soyuz or space Shuttle, and four who are awaiting an opportunity.
