Abstract
Theoretical and experimental studies are carried out to clarify the effect of transverse and longitudinal magnetic fields on the oscillatory flow characteristics in a pipe. The experimental data show that the effect of an applied magnetic field on the oscillating pressure in the pipe depends strongly on the applied field direction and is enhanced by using a pipe with a long orifice. A theoretical analysis taking into account the particle aggregate qualitatively explains the experimental results and suggests a limitation of the rigid spheroid model for the particle aggregate.
