Abstract

Limestone bodies included in clastic and volcanic sediments, such as mudstone, sandstone and rhyolitic tuff, of the Miocene Megami Formation in the Kakegawa district were studied in order to determine the origin of these limestones. Age, sedimentary environment and geologic history are discussed. The limestones in the Megami Formation are interpreted to represent allochthonous bodies which were transported from a shallow reef depth to a deeper sedimentary basin such as a trough on the continental slope or a trench floor. -from English summary
