In order to observe the Earth frequently, constellation and formation flight with microsatellites is a solution. Optical payloads are not able to observe the Earth through clouds. Therefore, constellation is essential to increase the frequency of observation. In Japan many microsatellites have been built and launched since 2014. The Hodoyoshi project (including microsatellite Hodoyoshi-1, 2, 3 and 4) and UNIFORM projects have been funded by the Office of Cabinet and MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology), respectively. These projects have been conducting under consortium, which includes Tohoku University, Hokkaido University, Tokyo University of Science, Kyusyu Institute of Technology, Keio University, JAXA, NESTRA (the Next generation Space System Technology Research Association), Axelspace.co and others. Hodoyoshi-2 (also known as RISESAT) is developed by Tohoku University and supported by Hokkaido University among others. In order to observe wild fire, UNIFORM-1 was developed by Wakayama University with collaborators: the University of Tokyo, Tokyo University of Science, Tokyo Metropolitan University, Tohoku University, Hokkaido University, Keio University, JAXA, NESTRA and other bodies. UNIFORM-1 has almost the same bus system as Hodoyoshi-3. Four microsatellites: UNIFORM-1, Hodoyoshi-3, -4, and Hodoyoshi-1 were successfully launched in May, June and November of 2014, respectively, and they are in a good condition currently. This chapter describes optical payloads on board microsatellite Hodoyoshi-1, 2, 3, 4 and UNIFORM-1.
