Abstract
The optical magnetoelectric (ME) effect in the optical absorption spectra of a polar ferrimagnet GaFeO3 was analyzed. It was found that the optical ME effect was ∼ 3 × 10-3 for dipole and spin-forbidden d-d transition bands. It was also observed that the spectral shape of the GaFeO3 corresponded to the modulation of the absorption band intensity. The results show that the spectral shape also changes sign with the reversal of light propagation relative to the outer product of the spontaneous polarization and magnetization vectors.
