Abstract
This paper is concerned with the wing beating behavior and the aerodynamic characteristics of a Java sparrow Padda oryzivora. The experiments on the bird flight were conducted by use of a three dimensional motion analysis system. The three dimensional representation of the free bird flight was obtained by the motion grabber and personal computer. The bending characteristics of the flight feathers on the Java sparrow wing were examined with a small low-turbulence wind tunnel. The wind direction anisotropy of the flight feather in the bending characteristics was observed in the wind tunnel experiments. The morphological characteristics of the flight feathers were also revealed.
