ON MECHANISM OF MOVEMENT OF PARTICLES FOR FLOW WITH STATIONARY DEPOSIT BED: STUDY ON BEHAVIOR OF PARTICLES IN SOLID-LIQUID TWO PHASE FLOW IN HORIZONTAL PIPES (1ST REPORT).

Abstract

In order to examine the behavior of saltating particles in horizontal pipes of 30. 8 mm, 39. 7 mm and 49. 6 mm i. d. with the stationary deposit bed, several investigations were made experimentally by using two kinds of glass beads and P. C. V. pellet. Saltation length, saltation height, impact angle and lift-off angle were measured, and it was found that saltation length and height of a single particle and saltation length of particles increased as the mean velocity above the bed increased, but saltation height of particles was nearly constant regardless of the mean velocity. Furthermore, it was confirmed that impact angle and lift-off angle of particles for the flow with the stationary deposit bed and with the imitation of stationary deposit bed were about 10 degree and 20 degree respectively, and they were nearly equal to those of a single particle for the flow with the imitation of stationary deposit bed.
