Nuclear magnetic relaxation in VO2

Abstract

An extensive study of the nuclear relaxation time T1 in VO2 has been made in the temperature range between 4.2 and 600 K. In the metallic state (T > Tt = 340 K) the exchange-enhanced Korringa relaxation process is observed, while in the insulating state (T < Tt) it is shown that the excitations to bound excitons are responsible for the relaxation.
