Nondestructive measurement of mode couplings along a multi-core fiber using a synchronous multi-channel OTDR

Abstract

We propose and demonstrate a new technique for measuring mode couplings along a multi-core fiber (MCF) that employs a multichannel optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR). The mode couplings along seven core fibers are successfully obtained using a synchronous seven-channel OTDR.
