Non-linear spin-dependent polariton emission in semiconductor microcavities

Abstract

Non-linear spin-dependent polariton emission is reported in microcavities, studied using polarization- and time-resolved spectroscopy. The experiments reveal an efficient scattering process from pumped polariton modes towards the detected modes with wave vectors k ≈ 0. Using an appropriate calibration procedure, the instantaneous polariton occupation numbers could be determined for modes co- and counter-polarized with the excitation. With circularly polarized excitation, stimulation occurs when the occupation number of the modes co-polarized with the excitation reaches values comparable to unity. This effect is interpreted in terms of the parametric process that originates in the polariton mutual exchange. A dynamic model is developed, which accounts for the main experimental features.
