Abstract
The noise properties for the perpendicular head/disk and the PR4 channel were studied taking into account the equalizer transfer function. An error limit was determined by the SNR deterioration in the heads and disk. Based on the results, it is suggested that a higher SNR head/disk and/or less noise enhancement in the read-channel will allow a higher density.
