Abstract

The noise characteristics of the signal reflected from amplified spontaneous emission (ASE)-injected Fabry-Perot laser-diodes (FP-LD) used in loopback access networks are investigated. The relative intensity noise of the reflected signal is experimentally evaluated. The results show that the reflected signal is an incoherent light with suppressed intensity noise. Experiments also confirm that the intensity noise suppression effect increases with injected-ASE power.
