New quantum number and selection rules for chiral doublet bands and chiral wobblers

Abstract

A model for a special configuration in odd-odd nuclei is considered in the investigation of chiral geometry and chiral wobblers. Two pairs of nearly degenerate ΔI=1 bands are predicted by the model. Symmetry of the model Hamiltonian results in an additional good quantum number, which characterizes observable states. The selection rules for electromagnetic transition probabilities in chiral bands are derived and the numerical calculations are interpreted in terms of this quantum number.
