Neural puzzle: Morphological control and assembly of single primary neurons usng mobile microplates

Abstract

We describe a method for controlling axon/dendrite morphology of single primary neurons and assembling circuit of neurons using mobile microplates. The microplates enabled morphological control of neurons by their shapes, and also assembly of them to form physical connections. Functional synapse formation at the connection was indicated by immunostaining of synapse-related proteins and Ca2+ imaging of neural activities. We believe that the method will be useful in engineering neural circuits with selected neurons with defined morphology.
