Abstract

We investigated solution properties of cholesteryl-bearing mannan (CHM), which is higher branch structure. CHM formed self-aggregates in dilute aqueous solution. Using SEC-MALS and fluorescence-quenching technique, the self-aggregate consists of ∼7.5 CHM molecules and the aggregation number of cholesteryl moieties in one hydrophobic domain was ∼10. Cholesteryl-bearing pullulan (CHP) formed macrogel above 3.5wt% due to the connection of CHP nanogels. However, no gelation was observed even in the concentration of 10wt% of CHM. CHM nanogels showed higher colloidal stability than CHP nanogels. The branched structure of polysaccharides of nanogels affects solution property.
