Morphological-fuzzy filter for enhancement of intravascular ultrasound images

Abstract

A filter for enhancement of intravascular ultrasound images is proposed. This filter performs this task in two phases: first a pre-processing based on morphological smoothing and then a fuzzy enhancement is done on the basis of the intensity and variance information of the input image. Results have shown that this technique is useful to facilitate the processes of segmentation of regions of interest in intravascular ultrasound images.
