Monolithic Integrated Coherent Receiver on InP Substrate

Abstract

A monolithic integration with three principal optical devices for a coherent receiver—a wavelength-tunable multielectrode DFB laser, a 3 dB waveguide directional coupler, and p-i-n photodiodes— has been successfully achieved for the first time. Optical heterodyne detection with a clear beat signal is experimentally confirmed using this integrated receiver.
