This paper discusses the effect of lateral inhibition on the discrimination of the timber of complex tone consisting of only higher harmonics. It is also proposes a model which takes lateral inhibition into account to estimate the difference limens for timber. The results using this model are closer to the experimental results than those using the old model. This results suggests that lateral inhibition plays an important role in the discrimination process of timber.
