Interrelation between the distortion of the MnO6 octahedra and spin ordering was investigated for Nd0.45Sr0.55MnO3 and Nd0.35Sr0.65MnO3 by means of synchrotron-radiation x-ray powder diffraction and neutron powder diffraction. The ground state of the former (latter) compounds is the dx2-y2(d3z2-r2 orbital-ordered state. A strong orbital-spin coupling is observed in Nd0.45Sr0.55MnO3, making a sharp contrast with the weak coupling in Nd0.35Sr0.65MnO3. We interpret the strong coupling in terms of the kinetic energy gain of the eg carriers in the dx2-y2 orbital-ordered state.
