Abstract
Mechanical properties were studied for low-Z ceramic films of TiC and TiN coated on molybdenum by a planar magnetron sputerring method and by a chemical vapour deposition technique. An attempt was made to estimate the fracture strength of the film and the bond-strength between the film and its substrate. The results indicate that coating of films having good adherence and a small fracture strength will prevent the coated films from exfoliation.
