Abstract

Measurement technique and equipment for evaluating transmission characteristics of single-mode fiber have been developed. Two kinds of optical time domain reflectometers were constructed using a 1. 32 mu m Nd**3** plus :YAG laser and a high power LD module, where an acoustooptical light deflector and a polarization splitter are used as directional couplers. As a result, fault location and loss measurement lengths longer than 20 km were attained.
