Manipulation of vortex circulation in decentered ferromagnetic nanorings

Abstract

A method to control the magnetic-moment circulation direction in a Ni81Fe19 decentered ring by controlling the domain-wall motion is presented. In the decentered ring, the domain-wall motion is driven by the gradient of te domain-wall energy along the circumference, which allows a reliable control for the circulation direction in the vorte state using the eternal magnetic field. Magnetic force microscopy observation shows the perfect controllability of the magnetic-moment circulation direction in the decentered ring.
