Abstract

Manganese distribution between liquid iron and MgO-saturated slags containing P//2O//5 or S has been obtained in the temperature range from 1550 degree to 1650 degree C by the use of magnesia crucibles. The manganese distribution ratio increases with increasing SiO//2 content and decreasing temperature. A close relationship between activity coefficients of MnO or equilibrium quotient k//M//n( equals (%MnO)/ left brace left bracket %Mn right bracket multiplied by (times) (%Fe//tO) right brace ) and slag basicity B( equals left bracket %CaO) plus 0. 3(%MgO) right bracket / left bracket (%SiO//2) plus (%P//2O//5) right bracket ) was observed.
