Magnetocrystalline anisotropy of binary and ternary Co-Cr-X (X=Ta, Pt) alloys

Abstract

In this study, the magnetocrystalline anisotropy of binary and ternary Co-Cr-X (X = Ta, Pt) bicrystal films were determined systematically. Pt addition enhanced the magnetic anisotropy of Co-Cr alloy due to preferential distribution of Pt atoms in ferromagnetic Co-enriched regions. On the other hand, Ta drastically decreased the anisotropy within the very limited solid solution range of about 0.5at.%.
