Abstract

In the Fe-Si-Al ternary alloy system, there are two compositions at which the maximum permeability μm takes on a local maximum. One is the central composition of Sendust, and the other is at 5 to 6 wt% Si, 2 to 3 wt% Al, and the balance Fe (the second-peak composition). The origin of soft magnetic properties at this second-peak composition has been studied using the single crystals in a composition range at which two phases are believed to exist at 600°C. The temperature and composition dependence of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy constant K1 and the magnetostriction constants λ100 and λ111 have been investigated and the relationship among them clarified.
