Magnetization reversal and domain structure of antiferromagnetically coupled submicron elements

Abstract

The magnetic domain structures of a sub-micron sized synthetic antiferromagnet (SyAF) were studied under the magnetization reversal effect. A focused magneto-optic Kerr effect (MOKE) system was used for obtaining hysteresis loops, while for observing the magnetic images in remanent state magnetic force microscopy (MFM) was used. A single domain structure was exhibited by the SyAF for the aspect ratio of 1. MOKE results indicated towards the dependence of switching field on the width and aspect ratio.
