Abstract
The experimental magnetization curve of the first synthesized S = 1 organic spin ladder compound BIP-TENO is presented. It reveals a clear plateau at 1/4 of the saturation magnetization. We propose a mechanism of the 1/4 plateau formation based on the frustration due to third-neighbor exchange interactions. We also compare the numerically calculated magnetization curve and susceptibility with the experimental results to estimate the exchange coupling constants.
