Magnetism and magnetocaloric effect in TbNi0.6Ge2

    Abstract

    TbNi0.6Ge2 crystallizes in CeNiSi2 type orthorhombic crystal structure with space group Cmcm. The magnetization and heat capacity measurements show that the compound is antiferromagnetic with Neel temperature (TN) of 31 K. The low temperature heat capacity data was fitted and the values of electronic coefficient and Debye temperature have been calculated. The magnetocaloric effect (MCE) has been estimated from the magnetization data, which confirms the strong antiferromagnetic nature of the compound.
