Magnetic structure of tetragonal TmB2C2

Abstract

Tetragonal TmB2C2, which is an isostructural compound of antiferroquadrupolar ordering materials DyB2C2 and HoB2C2, is a simple antiferromagnet with well-localised 4 f states. The magnetic structure below TN = 16.5 K is k = [1 0 1/2] type-one with a magnetic moment of 6.5 μB parallel to the c axis, which is different from the fundamental magnetic structure with k = [1 0 0] in the other RB2C2 (R = rare earth) compounds.
