Magnetic properties of solid solutions based on UFe10Si2

Abstract

The magnetization of interstitial (UFe10Si2Cx) and substitution solid solutions based on UFe10Si2 were studied as a function of magnetic field and temperatures on the aligned powders. The magnetization was measured by means of a vibrating sample magnetometer. The low value of magnetic moment in the uranium compounds was attributed to the cancellation of the spin and orbital components. UFe10Si2 exhibited uniaxial magnetic anisotropy whereas, NdFe10Si2 and ErFe10Si2 showed multiaxial anisotropy at low temperatures.
