Magnetic properties of S = 1 antiferromagnetic chains with bond alternation

Abstract

We report the results of magnetic experiments on the S = 1 antiferromagnetic bond alternating chain (BAC) Ni2(C 6H17N3)2N3(C 2O4)PF6. For all the nickel BAC compounds studied so far, the bond alternating ratios (α) and the energy gaps are evaluated from the fit of numerical calculations to the data. We compare the energy gaps as a function of α with those calculated numerically by Yamamoto and obtain excellent agreement between them.
