Abstract
Ground powders of Nd2Fe14B sintered magnets (particle size = 46-125 μm in diameter) were coated and alloyed by sorbing Yb metal vapor at 550-850°C. A significant recovery of remanence (B r), coercivity (Hcj and maximum energy product ((BH) max) values was observed in the resulting Yb/Nd2Fe 14B powders. The recovered values of 0.98 T, 712kA/m and 173kJ/m 3 for Br, Hcj and (BH)max, respectively, were obtained by optimizing the sorption and annealing conditions (800°C for 90min and 610°C for 60 min, respectively). The effects of temperature and sorption time on the magnetic properties of the recovered powders are discussed based on their microstructural characteristics.
