Abstract
Soft magnetic ferrites now in use as magnetic devices suffer from one defect, a saturation magnetization which is considerably lower than that of metallic soft magnetic materials. The present authors found that Mn-Zn ferrite single crystals containing about 0.05 mol % Er203 have an improved saturation magnetization (σS) and relative permeability (|μ'r). It is thought that the effect of the addition of Er203 on the magnetic properties is closely related to the increase in the saturation magnetic moment resulting when Er is dissolved into Mn-Zn ferrite. Mn-Zn ferrite containing Er203 is expected to prove useful as a magnetic head material.
