Abstract

The magnetization and electrical resistivity of a single crystal of (Fe0.98Ru0.02)2P have been measured as a function of temperature from 5 to 300 K and in magnetic fields up to 5.5 T. The compound orders antiferromagnetically at TN = 135 K and exhibits field-induced transitions to the ferromagnetic state in both principal directions. At 5 K, the magnetic moment along the c-axis is 2.9 μB/f.u. after the transition. The transitions are accompanied by a giant magnetoresistance effect (Δρ/ρ > 25%), indicating a considerable reconstruction of the Fermi surface.
