Magnetic phase transition in the verdazyl biradical crystal p-BIP-V 2

Abstract

We have succeeded in synthesizing verdazyl biradical crystal of p-BIP-V2[=4,4·-·bis(1,5-diphenylverdazyl-3-yl)biphenyl] . The magnetic susceptibility and specific heat showed anomalous behavior at 7.5 K, which indicates the magnetic phase transition to an antiferromagnetic long-range order. Considering the sufficient development of short-range magnetic order expected from the specific heat and the almost linear field dependence of magnetization below 7.5 K, we have confirmed that p-BIP-V2 has strong two-dimensional magnetic interactions.
