Abstract

Magnetic properties and Kerr rotation of Fe-light-rare-earth amorphous film were investigated in order to clarify the factors determining their magnetooptical properties. Torque measurements on the films were used to determine the temperature and composition dependence of their uniaxial anisotropy K//u. It was found that their direction of easy magnetization was perpendicular to the film plane at low temperatures, and K//u decreased with increasing temperature, changing sign at around 200 to 300 K and vanishing at around 400 K.
