Mössbauer study of Fe-base amorphous ultrafine particles prepared by chemical reduction

Abstract

Mössbauer spectroscopy was applied for the structure analysis of chemically synthesized FeB and FeM-B (M = Co, Ni) particles using KBH4as a reducing agent. The structure of FeB particles depends on the mixing molar ratio of KBH4to Fe2+ ions,Mr. The particles consist of amorphous FeB alloys and Fe3+oxides for MR≥ 10.0, while amorphous FeB alloys, Fe3+ oxides and the α-phase for MR < 10.0. The distribution of magnetic hyperfine field P(Bhf) also changes with MR. The average value of Bhfchanges discontinuously around MR = 10.0. The substitution of Fe by Ni atoms has a drastic effect on the Mössbauer parameters, indicating the change of the hyperfine field.
