Measurements of the magnetization and susceptibility of amorphous Co//1//0//0//-//xR//x (R equals Pr, Nd, Sm; 50 less than equivalent to x less than equivalent to 70) alloys prepared by a rapid quenching technique, at temperatures ranging from 4. 2 to 300 K, have been carried out. The magnetic behavior of the Co-R amorphous alloys is discussed in terms of a local moment model. It is suggested that the Co ions lose their moment around x equals 60, assuming that the rare earth ions retain their normal R**3** plus character and that the magnetic contributions of R in these disordered systems are similar.
