Localization of virtual sound image generated by two sources located on the median plane

Abstract

Localization of a sound image produced by two loudspeakers on the median plane was examined under various conditions. When the separation angle between the two loudspeakers is 15°, 30° or 45°, the sound image was localized almost at the midpoint of the loudspeakers so long as the sound sources were in front of subjects. For the separation angle of 60°, sound source localization dispersed in any of the directions, and the judgments were inconsistent with the middle of the angles of the two sound sources.
