Abstract

Natural oscillation of the cylindrical interface between a magnetic fluid and an outer ordinary fluid are studied. The magnetic field is generated by a line current at the cylinder axis. The magnetic field increases with inner displacement, while it decreases with outer displacement of the interface. Natural frequency is proportional to both the oscillation mode number and the line current when the surface tension is negligibly small.
