N2 - The enrichment cultures were used for FeSO//4 oxidation and leaching in the absence of nutritive salts. The relations between treatment time and product amount were linear. The drop in apparent oxidation velocity of Fe**2** plus at high values of the ratio left bracket Fe**3** plus right bracket / left bracket Fe**2** plus right bracket resulted from the regulatory mechanism of the bacteria. From the results of leaching elemental sulfur, it was observed that the enrichment culture kept a constant activity for a long time.
